This make-ahead French toast casserole will make breakfast easier. Simply top this freshly baked breakfast casserole with your favorite berries such as strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.

Overnight French Toast Casserole

Making this French toast casserole ahead of time is as quick as it is easy. The addition of the cream cheese adds flavor and variety to the classic version of this breakfast casserole and it’s a fun spin on stuffed French toast.

Maple syrup is the perfect pairing for this flavorful French toast but your favorite syrup will taste good as well!

Ingredients in French Toast

  • Brioche bread – sliced makes it easier!
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Unsalted butter
  • Heavy cream
  • Light brown sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Vanilla extract
  • Salt
  • Strawberries or berries of choice
  • Maple syrup
  • Confectioner’s sugar
  • Pecans -optional (walnuts are a good choice, too)
  • Cream cheese

How to Make Overnight Stuffed French Toast

Prepare the baking dishGrease a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray.

Prepare the brioche bread- Slice the bread into 1 inch thick slices if not using a presliced brioche bread.
Layer the bread into the 9×13 dish evenly.


Make the egg mixture- In a bowl, beat the 6 eggs with the milk, heavy cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract.

Pour the egg mixture over the bread- After stirring the egg mixture, evenly pour it over the brioche bread making sure to saturate all of the bread slices well.

Make the cream cheese mixture- Combine the cream cheese and the cinnamon together and drop in dollops on top of the bread.


Refrigerate- Refrigerate the French Toast casserole overnight.


Preheat the oven- Preheat the oven to 350ºF

Top off with brown sugar- Uncover the casserole dish and sprinkle the brown sugar on top of the bread and drizzle the melted butter evenly over the dish. At this point, add the chopped pecans if using.

Bake- Bake for 55 minutes. The bread should be golden brown before removing from the oven.

Allow to cool slightly- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for about 5 minutes.


Garnish and serve- Top with strawberries or desired berries and drizzle and serve with maple syrup.

  • 6 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cup sliced strawberries or berries of choice
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup for serving
  • Confectioner’s sugar, for dusting
  • 1/2 cup pecans, if desired

  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

Notes

Overnight French toast is best eaten right after baking due to the bread getting soggy.
